Embitter
The fire in their eyes when they looked at each other
burns less brightly now.
The electricity that followed with the touch of their fingertips
has ceased.
Their heart beats are now slowed--
but before they had tangoed,
and their breaths no longer stop from the sight of the other--
like they had done before.
Hands clammy from nervousness,
they are now dry.
And the tapping of their feet
has stilled.
Before,
communicating had been easy;
but now feels like a chore.
Their decisions
benefit only themselves
and happiness
was their last priority.
They have no idea what they have become.
